When Dr Fritz Bäuml looked out of his office window into the Nymphenburg castle grounds during his time as the director of the porcelain manufactory, he often witnessed the impolite exchanges in the everyday lives of swans. The fights, disputes, cooing and pairing with each other. It wasn't always as harmonious as is the case with this cosy amorous couple. However, the various scenarios and temperaments between pleasure and sufferance also served as realistic models of the Aschaffenburg-based artist Luise Terletzki-Scherf's porcelain figures that were modelled with painstaking care.
